The Indy Lab, an education company focused on innovative ways to teach and learn, was started by serial momtrepreneur, Frida Matute, who is a medical pediatric speech-language pathologist and owner of a private speech practice called Indy Speech Services. Frida, an SLP of more than a decade of experience, previously worked at NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue in NYC, started a toy company in 2016 by entering the NYU Entrepreneurial Competition and launched a private speech therapy clinic. Ever since then, she has been interested in exploring services and products that help families learn how to engage in interactive, guided play as well as how to embed multi-sensory teaching strategies into academic literacy programs. Playful Literacy, a new class that started in the spring of 2019, brought together Frida’s years of experience bridging play, movement and research into a reading readiness class that is fun and engaging for kids from pre-k to second grade. That became the basis for her school program.
